 Board of Directors 

 

Beth Gentry-Epley, Psy.D.

Dr. Gentry-Epley brings to the Board of Directors her experience with group facilitation and her understanding of human behavior. She has demonstrated a life-long love of choral music, including two decades participating in such esteemed groups as the Kansas City Symphony Chorus, the Fine Arts Chorale, and the chorale Francis Poulenc. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Gentry-Epley possesses a clear understanding of the impact of music on the human spirit and the use of music to reduce stress. Dr. Gentry-Epley is enjoying her participation in this choral organization not only as a member of the Board of Directors, but also as a singer in the ensemble. Her professional degrees include a B.A. from William Jewell College, a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Missouri and a Psychology Doctorate in clinical psychology from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology.

 

Melissa Shaw Carter

Ms. Carter brings to the Board of Directors her experience as support staff of the Harriman-Jewell Series, as well as her skills for development and bookkeeping for non-profit arts organizations. Ms. Carter demonstrates a high degree of sensitivity to the support needed for artists and ensembles, not only as a result of her work but also through her relationship with her spouse, world-renowned counter tenor Jay Carter. In recent years she has enjoyed singing with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus and Voce, a professional ensemble based in West Hartford, CT.  She is participating in Musica Vocale as both a member of the Board of Directors and as a vocalist. Ms. Carter holds a B.S. Degree in music from William Jewell College.

 

Cynthia Duty

Ms. Duty is the former Executive Director of Summerfest Concerts and is well versed in concert logistics. She has grant writing and development experience necessary to the success of several arts ensembles. Ms. Duty brings these skills and experience to her work on the Board of Directors for Musica Vocale. Ms. Duty is also an accomplished singer and will share her vocal talent as well with Musica Vocale. She has been a frequent soloist and Cantor in the Bach Cantata Vespers Series at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her previous ensemble experience includes the Kansas City Symphony Chorus, Bach Cantata Vespers Choir, and The Dale Warland Singers. Ms. Duty has a B.A. degree in Music from Augsburg College and a Master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of Kansas.

 

Jeffrey L. Hon, M.Div.

Rev. Hon lends the Board of Directors his experience as founding pastor of a very successful new church in the Kansas City northland area. Prior to beginning this new church, Rev. Hon spent over two decades developing his skills as a creative worship planner and specialist in liturgical music. His choral ensemble experience is also extensive. He has performed as a baritone soloist on numerous occasions and has participated in many esteemed choral groups, including the Fine Arts Chorale, the Kansas City Chorale, and the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. Rev. Hon contributes his talent to Musica Vocale through the Board of Directors and also as a vocalist. His professional degrees include B.S. in Music and Business Administration from William Jewell College and a Masters of Divinity degree from Saint Paul School of Theology.
